Nassau County Air Duct System Repairs & Replacement
As with the other components of Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems the duct work remains pretty much invisible to most of us. Out of sight, out of mind, right? That is, unless there is a problem with it. In Nassau County, HVAC service companies know that a properly installed and maintained HVAC duct system is vital to safety and energy efficiency.
A leaky duct system can cause a condition known as back draft. This is when combustion gases from a furnace are vented into the living space instead of outdoors. Back draft can contribute to a dangerous buildup of Carbon Monoxide (CO) gas in the home. Leaky ducts can contribute to poor indoor air quality by allowing dust, insulation particles, and pollutants from outdoors to enter the ducting and circulate throughout the home.
From an energy efficiency standpoint, leaky ducts are a problem because heated or cooled air can leak out instead of being directed where it was designed to go. Energy Star, a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), has determined that in a typical home, close to 20% of energy used in heating and cooling is wasted due to HVAC duct leaks.
How do you know if you have leaky ducts in your Nassau County home? There are a few indicators that can provide clues to answer this question. If you have ducts in the attic or other space exposed to outdoor air, these have to be sealed very tightly, but most likely the are not. If you have tangled flexible ducts in your system, it can cause pressure to build up which forces air out through tiny openings. If you have rooms that are difficult to heat or cool, or rooms that feel stuffy, this could indicate the problem. And, if you have abnormally high utility bills in the summer and winter you may have leaky ducts. If you have any combination of the above indicators it will be worth your time and effort to have your HVAC duct system inspected for leaks.
